Are You at Risk of Sun Damage Behind the Wheel?

Posted on May 20, 2014

The risk of sun damage that can lead to skin cancer is a prominent one. Everyone knows if you spend long hours outside in the sun without proper protection from harmful UV rays, you are at risk. But many drivers do not understand that they are also at risk of sun damage if they are not properly protected in their vehicles.

The harmful rays of the sun can actually penetrate glass, which many people are not aware of. Whether you are in your office building or in your car, you may be in a position where your skin may still be damaged by the UV rays from the sun. Statistics show that the average individual in the United States spends over 101 minutes in the car per day. Unfortunately, for the majority of that time, drivers expose themselves to potential skin damage from the sun, particularly on the left side of their bodies, which usually remain unprotected.

UVA rays create long-term effects that are not noticeable immediately. These effects may include premature aging, wrinkles, and possibly even skin cancer. Unfortunately, UAV rays are typically the most prominent rays to penetrate your car windows.

Luckily, there are window films designed specifically to offer drivers UV protection. The films block out over 99 percent of the harmful UV rays that can cause sun damage to drivers. There are even clear versions of these window films so that you don’t have to have darker windows if you do not want to.

There are many different benefits to having window films such as these installed on your vehicle. You will not only be able to protect yourself from potential sun damage that could be detrimental to your skin, but you will also be offering that same protection to passengers in your vehicle. These films are easy to install, and there are many professional companies, like All Pro Window Tinting, that can install them for you in an easy and efficient manner.

Having a vehicle that is safe is essential. You want to make sure you are providing the best driving experience for yourself and your passengers. While most people would assume having a safe vehicle is simply a matter of having seat belts, proper airbags, and important safety features, thinking about your skin and installing window films to protect you from harmful UV rays is another way you can create a safer vehicle.
